BRUCE WILLIAMS

"I have been expressing my views on timeshares for the last two-and-a-half decades. They are a very, very poor investment. I use the word 'investment' only because I can think of no other term that would be reasonably clear and fair. One of the problems with timeshares is that there is a very small resale market, and you may lose as much as 80 percent of your investment. Figures that I have seen published indicate that as much as 45 percent of the cost of a timeshare is consumed by the cost of sales.

As I have said many times before: You pay your money and take your chances. I still believe that time shares are a poor, overpriced purchase that most buyers will regret."

"The message for you: don't buy a time-share. Don't believe it is an investment, let alone a good one. If you want to regard it as a vacation destination, fine. Go ahead and buy it, then. But it will be the most expensive vacation you ever bought."
